Cassadaga Wind Phone Offers Space for Reflection and Healing

A quiet corner of Seneca Park, in Cassadaga, has become a new setting for connection and comfort. The Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp is unveiling its latest addition: a Wind Phone—an antique rotary telephone nestled near the waterfall, designed not for conversation, but for communion. Disconnected from any service, the device offers visitors a private space to “call” departed loved ones, an act that is both symbolic and deeply personal.

The Wind Phone was donated by Lisa Rowell and her family, who lost two of their adult children to overdose. For them, the simple act of speaking into the receiver became a profound part of their grief journey. By placing the phone in this tranquil spot, the family hopes to extend that same solace to others that are also navigating loss. The camp welcomes all visitors seeking a quiet space for healing, without judgment or formal ceremony.

Located on Spirit Pond near Colby Temple, the site is accessible at the intersection of Stevens and Marion streets. Visitors are invited to reflect, speak and simply be present in nature’s embrace. While the phone itself is not linked to a specific event, it complements the camp’s ongoing commitment to facilitating spiritual exploration and emotional well-being.

Location: 1099 Marion St., Cassadaga. For more information, call 386-228-2880 or visit Cassadaga.org
